The benefits of chiropractic care

At Olde Towne Chiropractic, we understand that no matter where you go to find answers to your body’s limitations, the remedies are endless and most often land on medication or surgery. It feels impossible to discover true health. That’s why we are so passionate about serving families and individuals who are looking for a holistic approach to better health. From pregnant moms to grandparents, we look forward to serving your family.

Prenatal Chiropractic

Pregnancy is a time when it can be challenging to feel your best. Weight gain, an ever-changing center of gravity, and hormonal changes can leave you feeling unfamiliar with your own body. It can be overwhelming, especially when you combine those physical changes with the emotions surrounding an upcoming birth.  We are a team of moms and women who are ready to support and encourage you along your journey.

Chiropractic care during pregnancy can address mom’s physical discomfort, as well as help  baby move into an optimal birth position. For mothers-to-be seeking to reduce discomfort without the use of drugs or surgery, chiropractic care with the Webster Technique is a trusted and reliable solution for thousands of women all over the world.

While pregnant, the body prepares for birth by releasing a hormone called relaxin, which loosens the ligaments of the pelvis, among other areas. In addition to the spine and pelvis shifting out of alignment, change in the center of gravity also occurs. For this reason, women often experience conditions such as the neck, back, pelvic, and nerve pain, including sciatica, during pregnancy.  Chiropractic care provides natural treatment for these symptoms.

Dr. Haley McCollum has undergone extensive post-graduate coursework in prenatal chiropractic and is certified in the Webster Technique, a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment technique for pregnant women that helps the pelvis function optimally during the birthing process. Not only does this allow the mother to feel more comfortable during labor, but it also promotes optimal fetal positioning for an easier birth.

Pediatric Chiropractic

Chiropractic is non-invasive and drug-free. Treatment is nearly always painless – an important factor for children. Sometimes a single treatment brings relief; children typically heal more quickly than adults, especially if treatment is initiated early. Adjustments can be utilized to correct misalignments in newborns caused by the stress of delivery. Similarly, chiropractic care can serve as a natural approach to resolving common childhood conditions such as ear infections, colic, digestive issues, acid reflux, latching problems, allergies, torticollis, asthma, and frequent bed wetting.

Dr. Haley McCollum specializes in pediatric chiropractic. She is a member of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) and is trained in evaluating pediatric spines and correcting misalignments gently and safely. Other chiropractic strategies can improve nutrition, promote better posture, or strengthen and stretch tight muscles.

How Does Chiropractic Work?

Spinal alignment affects overall health. The nerves that control movement, sensation, and function for the entire body run off the spinal cord. When compressed or irritated, these nerves can cause pain, as well as organ system dysfunction. A chiropractic adjustment relieves the pain and can decrease inflammation.

When is the right time to schedule an appointment?

Chiropractic care is beneficial for children as early as their day of birth. Adjustments can be utilized to correct misalignments in newborns caused by the stress of delivery.  While an injury is an obvious reason to seek care, your child may show other, more subtle signs that treatment is necessary. These signs include behavior changes, sleep disturbances, or a reluctance to engage in certain kinds of activities. Even children too young to talk may display some of these symptoms.

Postpartum Chiropractic

Prenatal patients are generally diligent about their care while they are pregnant, but what about after the baby comes? This fourth trimester is a critical time for mom to recover. Oftentimes pregnant patients stop seeking chiropractic care after the birth of their baby. Chiropractic care can help speed the healing process and ensure healthy postpartum rehab. It is recommended we assess mom shortly after delivery since many postpartum women need help healing their bodies and supporting the pelvis and spine after the effects of pregnancy, labor, and delivery.
